Our beautiful new school building with the two Grade R classes’ teachers and children.
Newsletter 1/2020
Wow! What a term it’s been, the grand opening of our new classrooms, our 8th Golf Day and then all the regular activities happening daily at school.
So, this is how far I got before we got the news about the lockdown because of the Corona virus. And despite of what is currently happening around the world, I feel the need to finish this Newsletter and still share our good news with you. Because the world we have known might never be the same, but it has not come to an end.
I must start this year’s first newsletter with the opening of our new classrooms. It was a very special occasion attended by friends, family, and sponsors of Siyabulela Pre Primary. On Wednesday, 12th of February, after 18 months in the making, two new classrooms that accommodate sixty learners were opened.
Guests of honour were Franca Tinner, the ambassador for Grant Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland’s charity foundation, ‘For Smiling Children’, which sponsored the building of the classrooms, Carl-Heinz Duisberg, the school’s patron, who facilitated the relationship between the resort and the school and tannie Corrie Gerber, who has been actively involved in the school from very early on.
Each of them was presented with a beautiful ceramic bowl jointly created by well-known local potter Corinne de Haas and the Grade R learners. Featuring the children handprints, each one a unique design. And with that the school wanted to say thank you in a special way for all of their help to assist the school in forming, not perfect, but unique little human beings.
A few speeches were made and the day was ended off on a highlight, the children’s participation. Although the little ones were very shy, because of all the faces in front of them, the people loved seeing the beautiful faces of the children and enjoyed their songs and rhymes. When the proceedings closed with the Grade R children singing the national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel’iAfrika, everyone’s hearts were stolen.
Our beautiful children
